Privacy policy

In short: EdgAI is an offline WAEC tutor. Your profile, your practice and your lessons stay on your phone, in an encrypted database. We have no accounts, no analytics, no ads and no tracking, and the app does not send your learning data to us or anyone else.

Who we are

EdgAI is made by Edgai Ltd ("we", "us"). This policy explains what the EdgAI app does with information about you. EdgAI is designed for secondary-school students, including children.

What stays on your phone

Everything below is stored only on your device, inside an encrypted database that belongs to your profile. We cannot see or access it.

Your first name, class and country	To set up your profile and choose the right lessons.
Your practice: questions attempted, answers checked, hints used, sessions	To show your progress and topics worth another look.
Saved questions	So you can come back to them.
Your PIN and recovery phrase, as scrambled check values	To lock your profile. The actual PIN and words are never stored.

Your first name is also kept in the phone's secure storage so the profile chooser can show it without unlocking anyone's data.

What we never collect

Your conversations with the tutor are not sent to us. The tutor runs on your phone.
No account, email address, phone number or password.
No analytics, crash reporting, advertising identifiers, location or contacts.
No selling or sharing of data with third parties, because we do not receive it.

Optional: "Help improve Edgai"

Some versions of the app, including test versions, offer a setting called Help improve Edgai. It is off unless you turn it on. A learner under 18 needs a parent or guardian to agree first. We do not verify age or identity.

When it is on, lesson conversations are prepared for sharing on your phone:

They include your messages, the tutor's replies, your answer results, the instructions the tutor was given, and drafts it wrote, including replies you did not see.
They never include your name, class, PIN or profile, or a conversation where the app gave safety help.
Emails, phone numbers and long numbers are removed, and sentences like "my name is …" are replaced. This filtering is not perfect, so please avoid typing personal details.
Each conversation waits 24 hours, so you can delete it first.

In the current version, these conversations stay on your phone and are not sent to us. Before we start receiving any, we will update this policy, say what we keep, how long and who can access it, and the app will ask again. Turning the setting off deletes every conversation waiting on your phone and, once sending exists, asks us to delete the ones we received.

Internet use

The first time you set EdgAI up, it downloads the tutor's files (the AI model, voice and vocabulary files, about 1.7 GB) from Hugging Face and GitHub. These are ordinary file downloads: no personal information is sent, but, as with any download, those services can see your device's IP address under their own privacy policies. After that, lessons work fully offline.

Your choices and rights

See and copy your data: Settings → Data and privacy → Take a copy creates a file of your profile and practice record.
Delete your data: Settings → Data and privacy → Delete my data permanently removes your profile, its encrypted database and its keys from the phone. Uninstalling the app also removes it.
Sharing: off by default; you can turn it off at any time.

Some copies are outside the app's control: your keyboard may learn words you type, and your clipboard keeps what you copy. Deleting EdgAI data does not clear those.

Children

EdgAI is built for students, many of whom are under 18. Because the app does not send us personal information, no data about children reaches us. Parents and guardians can review or delete a child's data on the device at any time using the steps above.

Security

Each profile's database is encrypted with its own key, held in the phone's secure keystore and protected by the profile's PIN. We still recommend keeping your phone itself locked.

Changes to this policy

If the app starts handling data differently, we will update this page and the date above, and ask for your permission in the app before anything new is collected or shared.
